Primary Years

St John’s offers a broad and balanced curriculum, which aims to enhance the whole person, for students from the Early Learning Centre through to Year 6.

We offer a range of specialist areas, including Information Technology, Design and Technology, Physical Education, Art, Music, Science and German. Some specialist lessons in the upper primary are held at Concordia College.

St John’s is an Authorised School of The International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme. The aim of the programme is to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.

Students with specific learning needs are supported in their learning through specific Learning Support programmes, as well as inclusive classroom support by Learning Support teachers.

Student Assessment is outcome-based and ongoing. Progress folders containing student work are sent home at the end of Terms 2, 3 and 4. A summary statement is provided mid-year and at the end of the year. NAPLAN testing occurs at Year 3 and 5. School Entry Assessment testing occurs during the Reception year.
