YEAR 6 REFLECTIONS

Sports Day

This year Sports Day was even more fun as it was the last year we were going to participate in Sports Day at St John’s. This year we were Sports Day Captains for our teams. This was a great way to experience leadership. In the morning we helped take the banners to our tents. Then we led our team raps, the mighty gold team won the raps!  After this the tabloid events were held. At the end of the tabloids the Red Team was in the lead followed by the Blue Team, then the Gold Team and finally, the Green Team. The sprints and relays were next. At the end of the day the ‘Great Red Team’ came out on top, this was the end of Blue team’s reign. This was certainly a fun filled day for everyone!

Who We Are

IMG_4838.jpg
This unit really helped us to learn about leadership and who we are as leaders. We learnt about different leadership qualities, how to become a better leader and how we are leaders. We also learnt about past and present leaders and how they impacted the community. Throughout this unit we had some guest speakers come speak to us about leadership and how they are leaders. We found this really interesting and helpful, we are grateful that two of our classmates organised these speakers for us. Throughout this unit we enjoyed having responsibility for our work because we were able to make choices about our learning experiences and we were involved in the assessment of our work. We really enjoyed this unit and we hope that we can use our leadership qualities in a positive way to serve our community.

ALWS Reflection

On Monday the 16th of May, Andrew Weiss from Australian Lutheran World Service (ALWS) spoke to the Year 5 and 6 students as part of the ALWS Awareness Day. At the start of the day everyone received a refugee card that told us our home country. We had to put our fingerprint on this card and then we were given a lot of information about the work ALWS does in Burundi and Sudan. This helped us to learn about the problems in Africa and the difficulties that refugees face. We really enjoyed hearing the stories of two people who were refugees and we were really sad to hear about the challenges that African people with Albinism encounter.

Biggest Morning Tea

clip_image004.png
On Monday the 23rd of May we hosted a Biggest Morning Tea for all of the Year 6 students and the staff to raise money for people with cancer. We wrote up order forms and sent them out to all the year 6 students. Over the weekend we collated the orders and prepared the goodies. We sold them on Monday at recess to the Year 6 students. On Tuesday we went to the staff room and sold more goodies to the staff. Overall, it was a great success! Thank you to everyone who supported our fundraising efforts!
