Visual Arts
At St John's we aim to instill a creative love for Art in all of the students. We often talk about being artists and discovering different aspects of the visual arts that individuals particularly enjoy. We acknowledge that some students develop a passion for drawing or painting, whilst others prefer sculpture or other forms of 3D Art. Importantly, the students are encouraged to develop the confidence to be creative risk takers.
Throughout the course of the year the Art teacher works collaboratively with the year level teachers on one of their Units of Inquiry. All other Art units are planned with an inquiry approach, using the format of the PYP planner.
The students' portfolios are stored in the Art Room throughout the year. Most of their artwork is filed for safekeeping and as a record of their progress. Parents are very welcome to visit the Art Room with their child and to share the artwork in their potfolio at any time.
